Growing Expectations
A plant rescue operation by Violeta Burckhardt
The project addresses a critical gap in the handling of living plant material within the logistics and transportation framework, as well as the post-event utilization and disposal practices following the conclusion of the Architecture Venice Biennale, 2021.
By affording these plants a final opportunity to relocate, we offer them a secure sanctuary—a place where they can thrive without the need for further migration. This initiative represents a concluding act of cooperation, extending participation not only to Biennale attendees but also to students and the city's residents, inviting them to join a rescue mission aimed at safeguarding the plants from destruction. It stands as a symbol of the city's commitment to protect all of its inhabitants, both human and non-human, recognizing them as integral to the city's progress.
This ultimate gesture and collective effort belong to all who choose to engage in it. It presents a final chance for us to respond to the fundamental question that initially brought us together: 'How will we Live Together?' The answer is clear: through care, engagement and action.
